What is bullying and why is it dangerous?
Bullying is a repeated aggressive behavior that is intentional and involves an imbalance of power. It can take many forms, including physical, verbal, and social actions.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately 22% of students ages 12-18 in the United States reported being bullied during the 2018-2019 school year.
You should remember that bullying is not a game.
Bullying is violence
Here are some signs of bullying:
  • Intentional and repeated: bullying is systematic
  • No reason required: bully enjoys the process itself
  • Imbalance of power: the victim always feels weaker
  • It is a group problem: even witnesses are taking part in bullying
  • Emotional harm: it is fun for the bully but scary, painful and depreciating for the victim
  • Problem of inaction: bullying can’t be solved like a conflict. It can only be stopped
Consequences of bullying
  • Low self-esteem
  • Distorted self image
  • Social anxiety
  • Loneliness
  • Depression
  • Suicidal thoughts
Bullying affects everyone: the victim, the bully, and the bystanders
For the victim, bullying can cause physical, emotional, and psychological harm. Victims of bullying may also experience social isolation, feelings of fear and guilt.
For the bully, bullying behavior can lead to a range of negative consequences. They learn that violence is acceptable and they may be unable to form healthy relationships in the future. Bullies can also experience academic and legal problems.
Bystanders who witness bullying can also be affected. They may experience feelings of guilt, fear, and helplessness of teachers and school administration.
